Your First Appointment

Initial Consultation:

Your initial visit lasts between 75 and 90 minutes. During this time, we will discuss your complaints and/or goals, and I will ask detailed questions including your medical history, sleeping patterns, emotional state and lifestyle. Then, I will take your pulse on both wrists, examine your tongue, and palpate specific areas and points of the body as necessary. This will help me understand your unique needs and your overall health.

Diagnosis & Treatment Plan:

I will then make a Chinese diagnosis taking into account your unique needs; and formulate a treatment plan.

Techniques:

You will be asked to lie facing up or down depending on the acupuncture points, and the methods for the treatment selected, such as moxibustion, cupping, Gua Sha, and electro-acupuncture. You may also be asked to sit on a chair for an easy-access to certain acupuncture points.

Needles will be gently inserted into various acupuncture points on the body and left in place for about 20 minutes depending on the required effects.

No. of Sessions:

The number of sessions required will depend on many factors including whether the condition is acute or chronic, and individual’s overall health and constitution. The treatments can be for maintenance of well-being and as on-going activities, such as stress management, pre- & post- natal care, facial rejuvenation, and so forth. We will discuss how and when we will review the progress.

Each person responds to acupuncture differently.  Therefore, there will not be one standardized treatment prescription, which fits all.  Most people receive the treatment once or twice a week to start with, and longer intervals between treatments may be suggested later on.

Lifestyle advice, including diet and exercises, will be suggested to enhance the treatments and for your healthier life.

Preparation for the appointment

Please make sure that you have eaten (not totally empty stomach) before the treatment to avoid the possibility of getting lightheaded.

Please do not eat or drink anything that may stain the tongue a few hours before the appointment. (e.g. coffee, tea, curry...)

For cosmetic acupuncture, please come prepared to remove your make-up in the clinics.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your first appointment as you will be asked to fill in the Patient Information Form (this is available to be sent to you via email if requested).
