Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese technique that dates back over two thousand years.
Gua Sha is a healing technique used in Asia by practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, and also seen and used as a folk remedy at home, but little known in the West.
In Gua Sha, the skin is pressured, stroked and scraped using a round-edged instrument. This stimulates and normalizes blood circulation and helps to clear metabolic waste congestion in tissues and muscles.
The painless, reddish, millet-like skin markings (petechiae) typically appear on the area treated and they are referred to as Sha, which will indicate the nature of the conditions, and will fade in several days.
Traditionally, tools were made from horn or jade. However, a Chinese soup spoon is frequently used because of a snugly fit into the hand.
