She is also a qualified yoga teacher (The British Wheel of Yoga), a yoga therapist (Yoga Biomedical Trust), and a Yoga of the Heart® (cardiac and cancer yoga therapy) teacher.
Atsuko is originally from Japan and worked as a translator/an interpreter in Japan and the USA until she moved to London, UK accompanying her American husband in mid 90‘s. Having grown up in Japan and with an acupuncturist uncle, various forms of oriental medicine and therapies have been very familiar to her throughout her life. After arriving in London, she decided to take up yoga practice once again and receive traditional acupuncture treatments, which she found both extremely beneficial in treating the stress related conditions that she was experiencing at that time and nurturing her body and mind.
Soon after, Atsuko decided to change her career, and re-trained herself as a yoga teacher and a yoga therapist. She has worked as a yoga therapist in integrated medical clinics in central London with a team of like-minded medical doctors and complementary therapists. She has also taught yoga in numbers of health clubs, business offices and 1-1 at individual’s homes. Atsuko has helped people with a great variety of medical conditions and social backgrounds, and has continued to study with eminent yoga masters, such as Swami Pragyamurti, Paul Grilley, Sarah Powers, Ardil Palkhivala, Nischala Joy Devi, Dr. Shirikrishna, and Dr. Uma Krishnamurty to receive more their teachings.
Also, having first hand experiences of how traditional acupuncture helped her family and herself, Atsuko also studied the powerful “tool”, traditional acupuncture, in order to help others in a more holistic way. She is currently in the Kampo, 漢方 apprenticeship course in Japanese herbalism under Gretchen De Soriano, who is the master in the field in Europe and beyond.
As she studies the energy based oriental medicine and therapy, Atsuko has found it very fascinating the impact they can have on a physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual level on people. She believes that these ancient yet modern oriental medicine and therapy would benefit people, and hopes that the treatments and wisdom of the East become a part of a sequence to their own healing.
